Enabling Trust with Behavior Metamodels

چکیده

Intelligent assistants promise to simplify our lives and increase our productivity. Yet for this promise to become reality, the Artificial Intelligence community will need to address two important issues. The first is how to determine that the assistants we build will, in fact, behave appropriately and safely. The second issue is how to convince society at large that these assistants are useful and reliable tools that should be trusted with important tasks. In this paper, we argue that both of these issues are be addressed by behavior metamodels (i.e., abstract models of how the agent behaves). Our argument is 1) based on experimental evidence of how metamodels can improve debugging/validation efficiency, and 2) based on how metamodels can contribute to three fundamental components of trusting relationships established in previous literature.

A Study on Metamodeling Techniques, Ensembles, and Multi-Surrogates in Surrogate-Assisted Memetic Algorithms

Surrogate-Assisted Memetic Algorithm(SAMA) is a hybrid evolutionary algorithm, particularly a memetic algorithm that employs surrogate models in the optimization search. Since most of the objective function evaluations in SAMA are approximated, the search performance of SAMA is likely to be affected by the characteristics of the models used. In this paper, we study the search performance of usi...

Uncertainties Assessment in Global Sensitivity Indices Estimation from Metamodels

Global sensitivity analysis is often impracticable for complex and resource intensive numerical models, as it requires a large number of runs. The metamodel approach replaces the original model by an approximated code that is much faster to run. This paper deals with the information loss in the estimation of sensitivity indices due to the metamodel approximation. A method for providing a robust...

Optimal Groundwater Remediation Design Using Trust Region Based Meta- models within a Genetic Algorithm

Computational cost is a critical issue for large-scale water resource optimization problems that often involve time-consuming simulation models. Less accurate approximation ("meta") models can be used to improve computational efficiency. We propose a novel trust-region-based metamodel framework, in which hierarchically trained metamodels are embedded into a genetic algorithm (GA) optimization f...

Statistical fitting and validation of non-linear simulation metamodels: A case study

Linear regression metamodels have been widely used to explain the behavior of computer simulation models, although they do not always provide a good global fit to smooth response functions of arbitrary shape. In the case study discussed in this paper, the use of several linear regression polynomial results in a poor fit. The use of a non-linear regression metamodeling methodology provides simpl...
